Our IoT Module Journey

Silicon Labs' journey with wireless modules started a decade ago when we decided to accelerate our customers' time to IoT markets with fully integrated IoT modules, i.e., wireless MCU solutions with an integrated, highly optimized antenna and worldwide RF regulatory certifications. We began our module rollout from Bluetooth and quickly expanded to Thread, Zigbee, Wi-Fi, and Z-Wave, making us one of the world's leading semiconductor companies offering high-quality wireless modules, end-to-end designed in-house.

At the beginning of 2025, Silicon Labs achieved $1 billion in lifetime revenue from its wireless module business, spanning all IoT product lines. Currently, Silicon Labs is the go-to place and one-stop-shop of IoT integrated circuits (IC) and modules.

Wireless Module Benefits

The benefits our wireless modules offer to the device maker customers are significant – from quick prototyping to high-volume shipments, we can serve our customers throughout their product design and lifecycle, reducing their product development and certification time and costs substantially.

When I asked our staff about their single greatest achievement with wireless modules, the answer was unanimous: the antenna-in-package, our patented innovation for designing a highly sensitive, yet extremely small antenna for our compact 2.4 GHz system-in-package (SiP) modules. This groundbreaking approach enables our customers to miniaturize their designs into a completely new, miniscule scale, while optimizing RF performance, accelerating innovation, and reducing the time spent on regulatory certifications and radio frequency (RF) design. The SiP modules have become a huge success among our customers in many fields. Finally they can design smart devices in record time and with unseen compactness. So, what am I most proud of with our decade long wireless module journey? For me, there are three big things: the huge scale we have reached, the vast number of customers we have served, and the strong impact we are making together as an industry. Imagine, the thousands of designs we have served, and how they have helped our customers to innovate products that are more intelligent, connected, and competitive, delivering delight and value to millions of users every day. Or, imagine the smart connected medical and health devices and wearables that allow people with a permanent diagnosis to live a fuller and healthier life. We truly have helped the world to be more connected, convenient, and effective.

Wireless Modules Continue to Accelerate IoT Innovation

Currently, Silicon Labs continues to release more modules and partners up with module makers to further increase and accelerate integration, shortening design cycles. We are excited about the future of wireless modules and the endless possibilities they bring to the world of IoT.
