Cryptographic keys are typically the most valuable asset in a device.
Secure elements can be designed into a products security subsystem and when integrated directly into the chip offer a low cost and energy efficient solution. The secure element is designed to protect the cryptographic keys by keeping them isolated from, but available to, the application. Private keys can be made non-exportable to help enforce confidentiality and public keys can be made immutable to enforce integrity.
